Médoc Wine Tour with a Private Driver
From Bordeaux · English-speaking · From €280
Left Bank · 45 min to 1 h 15 from Bordeaux
The Médoc Route des Châteaux, at your own pace
North of Bordeaux, one small road runs past some of the most famous names in wine: Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe. On a private Médoc wine tour, you taste and I drive. I’m Régis, an English-speaking private driver based in Bordeaux, and I plan each day around the wines you love.

Why a private driver
The easiest way to enjoy the Médoc
Taste freely
No designated driver, no worrying about the legal limit. Enjoy every glass, I take care of the road.
Classified growths by appointment
Most of the great estates only welcome visitors with a booking, often weeks ahead. I organise the visits for you.
Distances handled
The estates are spread over 50 km of country roads. I plan the timing so you spend your day in cellars, not on the road.

The 1855 Classification
The 1855 Classification and the five First Growths
In 1855, for the Universal Exhibition in Paris, Bordeaux wine brokers ranked the best red wines of the region in five tiers, from First to Fifth Growth. Today 61 estates are classified, 60 of them in the Médoc. The only major change since: Mouton Rothschild, promoted to First Growth in 1973.
Pauillac
Château Lafite Rothschild
Pauillac
Château Latour
Pauillac · since 1973
Château Mouton Rothschild
Margaux
Château Margaux
Pessac-Léognan
Château Haut‑Brion
Four of the five are in the Médoc, Haut-Brion is in the Graves, just south of Bordeaux. Pichon Baron (Second Growth) and Cantenac Brown (Third Growth), in the photos above, are also part of the 1855 list. On a full day we drive past most of these names on the Route des Châteaux. Visits are by appointment only and slots are limited: I book what is available for your date, with excellent classified growths nearby when the most famous are full.

Tips for your day in the Médoc
Book well ahead
Classified growths have few visit slots and many are closed at weekends. Two to four weeks ahead is wise.
Mind the distances
Pauillac is about an hour from Bordeaux. A half day works best around Margaux.
Two or three visits
Beyond that, the tastings blur together. Keep time for lunch and the views.
Buying wine?
Some estates sell on site and many can ship abroad. I’ll keep your boxes safe in the car.
